The Client's program was simple: "Give me lots of glass and make it modern." The result is a new 15,000 sq.ft. commercial building housing Evolution Furniture along Highway 101 in San Rafael. To promote retail sales, the design strives to be noticeable through the use of contrasts: contrast between light, airy curves and solid square forms; white window mullions and columns against black-tinted glass; striped shadows cast from an overhead sunscreen; man-made steel and glass placed against nature's texture of palms and tall grasses. The result is striking and the architecture distinctive.
