Spanish Colonial Estate
Kentfield, CA
Completed: 2006

The Owners of this beautiful site in Kentfield commissioned the design of a new 5,600 sq.ft. home to replace their 1950's ranch style house. They wanted a home which captured the spirit and style of a Spanish Colonial estate. Preserving the existing topography and the magnificent, centrally located Oak tree, along with capturing sunlight and views, were prerequisites.

Architectural elements such as thick stucco walls, wooden bays, decorative rafter tails, balconies, multiple terraces and intimate courtyards, combined with materials such as imported terracotta roof tiles, custom carved limestone, ornamental wrought ironwork, and copper gutters, all combine to create a home having the richness and romance characteristic of the Spanish Colonial style.

On the interior, floors finished with imported antique terracotta tiles and walls plastered with a soft white tone and light texture, combine to create an "old world" ambience. Custom cabinets constructed of solid walnut, designed to blend traditional forms with cleaner, more contemporary detailing, add warmth and quality. Large skylights further update and brighten the indoor spaces.
